Afra Sami AlReyami represents the new generation of Emirati women who combine science, discovery, and community service. She studied chemistry and is currently pursuing postgraduate studies in “Organizational Excellence” while working at the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology at Dubai Police.

Her personal life is enriched by diverse experiences, from painting and learning languages to handicrafts, reflecting the same adventurous spirit in her professional journey. She has never hesitated to explore new fields, whether within her specialty or entirely beyond it.

Her career began with a love of science and a desire to engage in work that serves people. Chemistry was chosen for its precision and practical application, which naturally led her to forensic science. She participated in two significant research projects: the first focused on 26 rapidly mutating Y-STR markers (26 RM-Yplex), which earned her the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief’s Award, highlighting the power of science in serving the community. The second involved the first confirmed detection of SARS-CoV-2 in untreated municipal and aircraft wastewater in Dubai, UAE.

The main challenges she faced as an Emirati woman included balancing work, personal life, studies, and other responsibilities, while proving herself in a highly specialized and competitive field. Her parents’ unwavering support, especially during international conferences, exhibitions, and volunteering opportunities, proved invaluable, alongside a supportive work environment that fostered her growth.

Among her proudest achievements is her volunteer work abroad, renovating a school in Zanzibar, demonstrating the profound impact even small humanitarian efforts can have.

Today, Emirati women benefit from years of empowerment and support, occupying leadership and influential roles across scientific, security, and social sectors. The difference between past and present lies in the opportunities given to women and the trust placed in them, making this evolution a true recognition of women as partners in national development.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation,” serves as a role model of empowerment, establishing its real meaning through decisions and initiatives that transformed society. Strong female figures like her inspire aspiration, effort, and resilience.

Afra’s message to young Emirati women: if you haven’t found your passion, don’t feel lost, keep trying, exploring, and learning from every experience. Passion can develop gradually through persistence, curiosity, and experimentation. Trust the process as long as you keep moving forward.

The slogan “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate the 50th” carries a profound message: progress is achieved through partnership and unity. أبرز التحديات التي واجهتها كإماراتية كانت موازنة العمل والحياة الشخصية والدراسة والمسؤوليات الأخرى، بالإضافة إلى إثبات ذاتها في مجال متخصص وتنافسي. رغم شعورها أحيانًا بالتردد، كان دعم والديها مصدر إلهام لا يُقدّر بثمن، خصوصًا خلال المؤتمرات والمعارض الدولية وفرص التطوع. كما ساعدها بيئة العمل الداعمة على النمو والتطور كإماراتية
من بين الإنجازات التي تفخر بها عفرا، تجربتها التطوعية في الخارج، حيث ساهمت في ترميم مدرسة في زنجبار، وهو عمل بسيط لكنه علمها قيمة العمل الإنساني وأثر الجهد الصغير في حياة الآخرين
