Nouf Alfadhli represents the new face of Emirati youth, blending excellence in science with a deep commitment to leadership and community engagement. She is a student at Khalifa University, specializing in cellular and molecular biology, and currently serves as president of the university’s Debate Club. Yet her academic focus is only one part of a broader journey that spans research, leadership initiatives, and international recognition.

Nouf co-authored a scientific article on developing “creating corneal scaffold from slaughterhouse waste” from slaughterhouse waste, and with her team, she designed a nuclear-powered car engine presented at the International Atomic Energy Agency an achievement that carried the UAE’s name into a global forum. She also co-designed the Future Leader initiative to nurture students’ leadership skills, graduated from the Mawhibatna program under the UAE’s National Fund, and was recognized as Best Leader in Stanford University’s summer program. These milestones, she emphasizes, are not isolated victories but part of a coherent journey of transforming scientific passion into tangible impact.

Her path began with the “Think Science” competition, where she and her team devised a nuclear radiation shield using date pits. This early experiment revealed to her the potential of research to turn simple resources into innovative solutions. Entering Khalifa University allowed her to expand on that vision through advanced projects and international platforms, reinforcing her belief that innovation grows out of challenge, persistence, and discipline.

Navigating science and leadership as a young woman was not without its challenges, particularly in fields often seen as demanding long experience or dominated by men. But Nouf chose to let her work define her, building credibility through achievement. “I believed that Emirati women are capable of leading,” she reflects, crediting her family and community’s support as a source of strength.

Among her proudest achievements, she highlights presenting the nuclear-powered engine at the IAEA, not only as a scientific project but as a moment of carrying her country’s name to the international stage. She also values her research on “creating corneal scaffold from slaughterhouse waste”, a contribution that, in her view, proves how modest resources can be transformed into solutions with global significance.

She believes Emirati women today live in a “golden era.” Compared to earlier generations, opportunities are now broader, positioning women as decision-makers, innovators, scientists, and leaders. This transformation, she notes, reflects the UAE’s vision of women as essential partners in national progress.

On a personal level, H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, is a figure of inspiration. “She represents strength and empowerment. Her support for women has made me believe that every dream is achievable, and that Emirati women can be anywhere they aspire to be from the lab to the debate hall, to the frontiers of innovation.”

To young Emirati women, her message is clear: ambition is only the beginning. “It must be matched with work, patience, and persistence. Do not wait for opportunities; create them. Do not see challenges as barriers but as steps upward.”

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Together, We Celebrate the 50,” Nouf interprets it as gratitude for the past and responsibility for the future. Fifty years of progress, she insists, were not achieved individually but through collective effort. To celebrate this milestone is to honor the sacrifices of previous generations while carrying forward the duty of building the next hundred years through science, innovation, and leadership.

تدرك نوف أن كونها امرأة شابة في مجالات دقيقة كالعلوم والقيادة الطلابية ليس بالأمر السهل، لكن ثقتها بأن “المرأة الإماراتية قادرة على الريادة” جعلتها تواجه كل تحدٍ بالإنجاز. وتقول إن الدعم الذي تلقته من أسرتها ومجتمعها منحها قوة إضافية لتجعل عملها هو رسالتها ودليل حضورها

وترى نوف أن المرأة الإماراتية اليوم تعيش “مرحلة ذهبية”، إذ أصبحت صانعة قرار، وباحثة، ومبتكرة، وقائدة في مجالات متعددة، بعدما فتحت القيادة الرشيدة لها أبواباً واسعة. فهي، على حد تعبيرها، تكمل مسيرة الرائدات الأوائل ولكنها تتحرك في أفق أوسع يعكس رؤية الدولة في تمكين المرأة شريكاً أساسياً في البناء

وعن سمو الشيخة فاطمة بنت مبارك، “أم الإمارات”، تقول نوف: “تمثل لي مصدر إلهام ورمزاً للقوة والتمكين. دعمها للمرأة جعلني أؤمن أن كل حلم قابل للتحقيق، وأن المرأة الإماراتية يمكن أن تكون في أي مكان ترغب فيه: من المختبر، إلى قاعة النقاش، إلى ساحات الابتكار

تؤمن نوف أن الطموح لا يكفي وحده، بل يحتاج إلى عمل وصبر واستمرارية، وتقول إن على الشابات الإماراتيات ألا ينتظرن الفرص بل يصنعنها، وألا ينظرن إلى التحديات كعوائق بل كسلّم للصعود

أما شعار هذا العام “يداً بيد نحتفي بالخمسين”، فتراه نوف رسالة مزدوجة: امتنان للماضي، والتزام بالمستقبل. فخمسون عاماً من الإنجازات لم تكن بجهود فردية، بل بعمل جماعي وتكامل بين الأجيال. واليوم، ترى أن مسؤوليتها ومسؤولية جيلها أن يمضوا قدماً ليصنعوا المئة عاماً القادمة بالعلم والابتكار والقيادة
