When Dr. Farida Al Hosani, Deputy Chief Executive of the Glide Institute for Disease Elimination, speaks, one senses a passion that goes beyond medicine. She does not see herself as merely a doctor but as part of a national and global mission placing human health at the center of sustainable development. “I began my journey with a sincere desire to be part of the solution, not a bystander. What kept me going was a deep sense of social responsibility, especially during health crises that demand calm leadership and decisions rooted in science and compassion,” she recalls.

Throughout her career, Al Hosani has combined field expertise, leadership, and strategic vision, with a clear goal in mind: building more sustainable health systems founded on prevention, empowerment, and the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into healthcare.

Challenges and Resolve

The path was not without challenges. As an Emirati woman, she had to prove herself in decision-making arenas that demand both speed and trust. Yet, she highlights the role of national leadership: “Thanks to their confidence in Emirati women’s capabilities, I was able to turn challenges into opportunities for growth and influence.”

A Defining Achievement

Her proudest moment remains leading Abu Dhabi’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. “It was both a human and professional turning point, where public health became the cornerstone of community safety, and where the UAE set a global model in crisis management,” she notes.

From Empowerment to Influence

Reflecting on the role of Emirati women today, Al Hosani remarks: “What we see now is a transition from empowerment to influence. Emirati women are decision-makers, innovators, and leaders in non-traditional fields such as technology, space, and global health.”

A Source of Inspiration

She pays tribute to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation”: “She is the first inspiration and the unwavering supporter of Emirati women. Personally, I drew strength, compassion, and wise leadership from her journey.”

A Message to Young Women

Recalling her early challenge of being asked to serve as the official spokesperson during the pandemic, she says: “It was a daunting moment, but I chose to face it with confidence and responsibility. Today, my message to every young woman is: never set limits to your ambition. The UAE is the land of opportunity, and challenges are your pathway to distinction.”

Fifty Years, Hand in Hand

On this year’s national theme, “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate Fifty Years,” Al Hosani reflects: “It represents loyalty to the journey, pride in our roots, and readiness for a stronger future led by Emirati women toward new horizons.”
