Marwa Al Mamari is an Emirati aerospace engineer and UAE’s first Aerospace Engineer. Her journey began with a firm belief that individuals can shape their own futures, no matter how unfamiliar or challenging the path may seem. Contrary to what some may assume, aviation was not her childhood dream. She was always a curious child who enjoyed playing like other children and did not grow up dreaming of airplanes or space. However, during high school, curiosity led her to search for a different field of study—one that offered a true challenge and the opportunity to discover a new world. At that time, aerospace engineering caught her attention, not because she knew a great deal about it, but because she knew very little about it—and that was exactly what attracted her.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Coventry University in the United Kingdom, followed by a Master’s degree in Aviation Safety from the same university. She worked in the field of aviation safety and air accident investigations, and later moved toward academic and research fields. She is currently continuing her PhD in Engineering, specializing in space systems and astrophysics at New York University Abu Dhabi.

Curiosity and the Love of Challenge… The Beginning of Her Journey into Aerospace Engineering
Marwa’s inspiration was not driven by a childhood fascination with airplanes, but rather by curiosity and a love for challenges. She was searching for an unconventional field that would push her beyond her comfort zone and test her intellectual abilities. The more she discovered that the field was difficult and rare, the more determined she became to pursue it. She wanted to understand how aircraft operate, how complex aviation systems are managed, and how technology and engineering can contribute to the safety of millions of passengers around the world.
Over time, curiosity transformed into passion, and passion evolved into a professional and personal mission.

The Title of “First” That Carried a Responsibility Greater Than the Achievement
Marwa considers graduating as UAE’s first Aerospace Engineer a defining turning point in her life—not only because of the title itself, but because of the responsibility it represented. Interestingly, she never sought the title of “the first”; she only discovered it upon graduation. At that moment, she realized that the achievement carried a message greater than personal success.
She also considers her work in aviation safety and air accident investigations an important milestone in her career, as it allowed her to move from studying aviation to actively contributing to making the industry safer and more impactful at both national and international levels.
When Competence Becomes Stronger Than Stereotypes
When Marwa began studying aerospace engineering, the number of women in the field was very limited, and she found herself in a predominantly male environment. She was often the only woman in the classroom or in some professional meetings.
However, her greatest challenge was not proving that women could work in this field, but proving that competence is not linked to gender—it is linked to knowledge, dedication, and hard work.
She learned that a confident voice built on knowledge earns respect, and that commitment and perseverance are often more important than talent alone.

Emirati Women as Essential Partners in Building the Future
Marwa believes that Emirati women today are essential partners in shaping the future. They are present in aviation, space, artificial intelligence, science, leadership, and decision-making. This progress did not happen by chance; it is the result of a leadership vision that believed in women’s capabilities and provided them with opportunities to prove themselves.
She believes that what we see today is only the beginning, and that future generations of Emirati women have opportunities that were limited to previous generations. They are capable of achieving even greater global accomplishments.
True Achievement Is Opening Doors for Those Who Come After Us
One of the most impactful experiences in Marwa’s journey has been meeting young girls who told her that seeing an Emirati woman working in aviation inspired them to consider engineering and science fields for the first time.
In those moments, she feels that true achievement lies in opening doors for others and creating new paths for future generations.
Family, Leadership, and Mentors… Partners in the Journey of Success
Marwa places her family among the people who had the greatest impact on her success. They supported her despite the fact that her chosen field was unfamiliar and unusual at the time.
She also recognizes the important role of the UAE’s leadership in her journey by transforming women’s empowerment into a tangible reality rather than just a concept. In addition, professors and professional leaders who believed in her abilities and encouraged her to continue played a significant role in developing her academic and professional journey and supporting her path in aviation, scientific research, and space.

Marwa’s message to girls and young women is simple: do not search for the easiest path; search for the path that sparks your curiosity and ignites your passion.
Do not fear entering new or challenging fields, because the greatest opportunities are often hidden behind the greatest challenges. She always repeats what she believes: success does not require someone exceptionally gifted, but rather someone committed, persistent, and willing to continue despite obstacles.

Marwa aspires to contribute to advancing scientific knowledge in space systems and astrophysics and to be part of projects that shape the future of aviation and space in the UAE.

مروة سعيد المعمري مهندسة طيران وفضاء إماراتية، وأول مهندسة طيران إماراتية. بدأت رحلتها من إيمان راسخ بأن الإنسان قادر على صناعة مستقبله مهما بدا الطريق غير مألوف، وخلافاً لما قد يعتقده البعض، لم يكن الطيران حلم طفولتها. كانت دوماً طفلة يقودها الفضول، تستمتع بألعابها كبقية الأطفال، ولم تكبر وهي تحلم بالطائرات أو الفضاء. لكن خلال المرحلة الثانوية، بدأ الفضول يدفعها للبحث عن تخصص مختلف، تخصص يحمل تحدياً حقيقياً ويمنحها فرصة لاكتشاف عالم جديد. حينها لفت انتباهها مجال هندسة الطيران، ليس لأنها كانت تعرف عنه الكثير، بل لأنها لم تكن تعرف عنه إلا القليل، وهذا بالضبط ما جذبها إليه

حصلت على بكالوريوس هندسة الطيران من جامعة كوفنتري البريطانية، ثم ماجستير في سلامة الطيران من جامعة كوفنتري البريطانية، وعملت في قطاع سلامة الطيران والتحقيقات الجوية، كما اتجهت إلى المجال الأكاديمي والبحثي، وتواصل اليوم دراستها للدكتوراه في الهندسة بمجال الأنظمة الفضائية والفيزياء الفلكية في جامعة نيويورك أبوظبي

الفضول وحب التحدي.. بداية الطريق إلى هندسة الطيران

لم يكن إلهام مروة المعمري مرتبطاً بشغف طفولي بالطائرات، بل كان نابعاً من الفضول وحب التحدي. كانت تبحث عن تخصص غير تقليدي يدفعها للخروج من منطقة الراحة ويختبر قدراتها الفكرية. وكلما اكتشفت أن المجال أكثر صعوبة وأكثر ندرة، زاد إصرارها على خوضه، وأرادت أن تفهم كيف تعمل الطائرات، وكيف تُدار منظومة الطيران المعقدة، وكيف يمكن للتكنولوجيا والهندسة أن تحافظ على سلامة ملايين المسافرين حول العالم. ومع الوقت، تحول الفضول إلى شغف، وتحول الشغف إلى رسالة مهنية وحياتية

لقب «الأولى» الذي حمل مسؤولية أكبر من الإنجاز

تعتبر مروة المعمري تخرجها كأول مهندسة طيران إماراتية نقطة تحول مفصلية في حياتها، ليس فقط بسبب اللقب نفسه، بل بسبب المسؤولية التي حملها. والمفارقة أنها لم تسعَ يوماً للحصول على لقب «الأولى»، بل اكتشفت ذلك عند التخرج، وأدركت حينها أن هذا الإنجاز يحمل رسالة أكبر من مجرد نجاح شخصي، كما تعتبر عملها في مجال سلامة الطيران والتحقيقات الجوية محطة مهمة في مسيرتها، لأنها انتقلت من دراسة الطيران إلى المساهمة الفعلية في جعل هذا القطاع أكثر أماناً وتأثيراً على المستوى الوطني والدولي

عندما بدأت مروة المعمري دراسة هندسة الطيران، كان عدد الفتيات في هذا المجال محدوداً جداً، ووجدت نفسها في بيئة يغلب عليها الرجال. وفي كثير من الأحيان كانت المرأة الوحيدة في القاعة الدراسية أو في بعض الاجتماعات المهنية، إلا أن التحدي الأكبر بالنسبة لها لم يكن إثبات أن المرأة تستطيع العمل في هذا المجال، بل إثبات أن الكفاءة لا ترتبط بالجنس، وإنما بالعلم والاجتهاد. وتعلمت أن الصوت الواثق المبني على المعرفة يفرض احترامه، وأن الالتزام والاستمرارية أهم من الموهبة وحدها

المرأة الإماراتية شريك أساسي في صناعة المستقبل

كما ترى أن المرأة الإماراتية اليوم شريك أساسي في صناعة المستقبل. فهي حاضرة في الطيران والفضاء والذكاء الاصطناعي والعلوم والقيادة وصنع القرار، وهذا لم يأتِ من فراغ، بل نتيجة رؤية قيادية آمنت بقدرات المرأة ومنحتها الفرصة لإثبات نفسها، وتؤمن أن ما نراه اليوم هو مجرد بداية، فالأجيال القادمة من الفتيات الإماراتيات يمتلكن فرصاً أكبر من الأجيال السابقة، وهن قادرات على تحقيق إنجازات عالمية أكبر

تضع مروة عائلتها في مقدمة الأشخاص الذين كان لهم الأثر الأكبر في نجاحها، فقد دعمتها رغم غرابة التخصص في ذلك الوقت. كما كان للقيادة الرشيدة دور محوري في مسيرتها، من خلال جعل تمكين المرأة واقعاً ملموساً وليس مجرد شعارات، وكان للأساتذة والقيادات المهنية الذين آمنوا بقدراتها وشجعوها على الاستمرار دور كبير في تطوير مسيرتها العلمية والمهنية، ودعمها في مواصلة طريقها في مجالات الطيران والبحث العلمي والفضاء
