Moaza Yousef Al Ali… An Emirati Generation Discovering the World and Carrying the Nation’s Identity Toward the Future
From Ras Al Khaimah to the University of Sharjah, and then to Hanyang University in South Korea, Moaza Yousef Al Ali is embarking on a journey that brings together a passion for knowledge, openness to the world, and pride in her Emirati identity. Moaza Al Ali is an International Relations student at the University of Sharjah and is currently spending a semester abroad at Hanyang University in South Korea.
When she looks back at her beginnings, she finds that her personality was shaped first and foremost by the environment in which she grew up. She was raised in a loving and supportive family, and her parents, grandfather, and grandmother played a significant role in shaping her character and instilling in her the values of responsibility, respect for others, and pride in her Emirati identity.
From an early age, she was surrounded by different cultures. Her mother had friends from various nationalities who regularly visited the family, and Moza loved sitting with them, listening to their stories, speaking with them in English, and asking questions about their countries and customs. Perhaps she did not realize at the time that these small moments would one day lead her to choose her university major, but they planted within her a love for discovering the world and getting to know people from different cultures.
She was also deeply passionate about history, spending hours reading about historical events and different civilizations. She was always curious about how relationships between countries were formed and how political decisions affected the lives of people. Over time, this curiosity developed into a genuine passion for international relations.
One of the qualities she values most about herself is her love for trying new things. Her goal was never to become an expert in everything, but rather to believe that every experience adds something new to a person. That is why she explored volunteering, the arts, marathon participation, student leadership, writing children’s stories, and community initiatives. She believes that people only discover themselves when they give themselves the opportunity to experience new things.
Today, she considers her study-abroad experience in South Korea one of the most beautiful chapters of her life. It was not simply an opportunity to study at a different university, but an experience that taught her independence, openness to new cultures, and how to proudly represent the UAE wherever she goes.
A Passion for the World That Began with History and Cultures
Moaza’s decision to study International Relations was not made in a single day. Rather, it was the result of years of curiosity and a love for learning. Since childhood, she has been fascinated by history and geography and enjoyed discovering the different cultures of the world. She was always curious about the reasons behind differences between countries and how dialogue could bring people closer together.
Having people from different cultures in her life from an early age helped shape this perspective. She enjoyed listening to their stories, comparing their cultures with Emirati culture, and felt proud whenever she introduced them to the customs and heritage of the UAE.
At the beginning of university, she enrolled in another major because she believed it suited her. However, after beginning her studies, she felt that she was not in the right place. Changing her major was a difficult decision because people sometimes fear starting over, but she believed that passion was more important than anything else.
After moving to International Relations, she felt that she had found the field where she truly belonged. She began enjoying her studies, participating in activities, and seeking opportunities that would help her grow. For her, International Relations is not simply about politics or diplomacy; it is about understanding people, cultures, and history, and learning how to build bridges of understanding between societies.
What she loved most about the field was that it opened many doors for her, including the opportunity to study in South Korea, which had been a dream of hers. The experience reaffirmed her belief that when a person follows their passion, opportunities naturally begin to find their way to them.
Changing Her Major… A Decision That Put Her Back on the Path That Truly Suits Her
Moaza believes that the biggest turning point in her life came when she decided to change her university major. At first, she thought success meant continuing on the path she had started, regardless of the circumstances. However, she learned that true success lies in finding the place that reflects who you are and what you are passionate about.
After moving to International Relations, her outlook on life changed completely. She became more confident in herself and more determined to make the most of every opportunity. She no longer waited for opportunities; instead, she began seeking them and creating them herself.
One of the achievements she is most proud of is being selected for a student exchange opportunity in South Korea. It was a dream come true, as it gave her the chance to study at one of the world’s leading universities, experience different cultures, and become more independent while living away from her family.
She is also very proud of representing the UAE at cultural events within the university and volunteering with the UAE Embassy in Seoul. These experiences gave her a strong sense of responsibility toward representing her country in an honorable and meaningful way.
Among the other achievements she is proud of are organizing art workshops, participating in marathons both inside and outside the UAE, and currently working on writing children’s books inspired by Emirati heritage. She believes that preserving identity begins with children, and that stories are a beautiful way to pass on the history and heritage of the UAE to future generations.
Challenges.. Lessons That Shaped Maturity and Confidence
Moaza has faced many challenges, but she believes that every challenge carries an opportunity for growth and learning. One of the most difficult stages she went through was her final year of high school, when she was studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a programme that requires significant commitment and continuous hard work. At the same time, she was going through difficult personal circumstances following the loss of someone dear to her, in addition to the pressure of examinations and uncertainty about her university future. During that period, she felt exhausted and lost, and more than once considered giving up or transferring to the general education track. However, her faith in God, the support of her family, and the presence of her close friend gave her the strength to persevere until she graduated with outstanding results.
She then faced another challenge when she discovered that her first university major was not the right fit for her. Admitting this was not easy, but she learned that changing direction is not a failure—it is an act of courage. After transferring to International Relations, she felt for the first time that she was studying something she genuinely loved. Living independently in South Korea presented another kind of challenge, as she learned to rely on herself, manage her time, and adapt to a new environment and a different language. All these experiences made her more mature and confident, and confirmed to her that challenges do not prevent success—they create it.
The Emirati Woman.. A Presence That Transcends Borders
Moaza believes that Emirati women have always been essential partners in building society, both in the past and in the present. They contributed to raising generations, carried responsibilities, and participated in different aspects of life. Today, they are present across every sector, from politics and economics to education, scientific research, and entrepreneurship. What distinguishes Emirati women is the genuine support they receive from the wise leadership, which has provided them with opportunities in education, employment, and innovation. Today, they represent the United Arab Emirates at international forums with competence and confidence.
When Moaza joined the International Relations programme, she met many Emirati female students who had previously studied abroad, and their stories became a great source of inspiration for her. When she was given the opportunity to study in South Korea, she felt that she was continuing a path paved by Emirati women who had come before her. She was also pleased to volunteer with the UAE Embassy in Seoul, where she witnessed firsthand how the country supports its sons and daughters abroad, encourages them to participate in events, and inspires them to represent their homeland in an honourable manner. She believes that the Emirati woman today represents not only herself, but also her country, carrying the values and culture of the UAE wherever she goes.
From a University Acceptance to Discovering the Meaning of Representing Her Country
One of the moments closest to Moaza’s heart was receiving her acceptance for the student exchange programme at Hanyang University in South Korea. Studying abroad had been a dream of hers for years, and when she shared the news with her family and saw their joy and pride in her, she felt that all the effort she had gone through during her years of study had been worthwhile.
Another unforgettable moment was representing the United Arab Emirates at an international event at the university. Many visitors stopped to ask her about Emirati culture, customs, heritage, and her country’s achievements. She spoke with great pride and felt that she was not representing herself alone, but her homeland as well. At that moment, she realised that even the simplest conversation can change someone’s perception of an entire country, and that each of us can serve as an ambassador for our homeland through our character, respect for others, and pride in our identity. The experience made her even prouder of belonging to the UAE and strengthened her belief that representing one’s country is both a responsibility and an honour.
A Family That Believed in Her and a Country That Gave Her the Opportunity to Dream
Moaza believes that a person may have ambition, but having people who believe in them and encourage them can make a tremendous difference in their journey. For her, her parents, grandfather, and grandmother were her greatest sources of support. They gave her confidence from an early age and encouraged her to try new things without fearing failure. They always reminded her that every experience, whether successful or not, would teach her something valuable for the future.
Even during the stages when she doubted herself, they saw in her what she could not yet see in herself and encouraged her to keep going and never give up. Her close friend also played a major role during high school, particularly during the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which was one of the most difficult years of her life due to personal circumstances and academic pressure.
She also cannot speak about her journey without mentioning the United Arab Emirates, which has been and continues to be one of the greatest reasons behind how far she has come. From school, she was given opportunities to participate in initiatives, activities, and competitions. At university, these opportunities grew through student activities, international programmes, and student exchanges. Even while in South Korea, she felt the support of her country through the UAE Embassy in Seoul, which gave her the opportunity to volunteer and participate in national events.
For this reason, she believes that true success is not an individual achievement, but the result of people who believed in you, an environment that gave you the opportunity, and a country that opened its doors for you to grow and pursue your dreams.
A Message to the Emirati Woman.. Choose the Path That Reflects Who You Are
Her message to every Emirati girl is to believe in herself and her abilities, and never allow fear to prevent her from trying something new. We live in a country that has provided us with countless opportunities in education, employment, innovation, volunteering, and international representation. We therefore have a responsibility to make the most of these opportunities and turn them into achievements we can be proud of.
She encourages every girl to choose the field she loves, rather than the field others choose for her. Personally, she began in a different university major, and when she realised that it did not reflect her passion, she found the courage to change it. At first, she was hesitant, but today she considers that decision one of the best decisions she has ever made. That is why she always says that changing direction is not a failure if it leads you to the place where you truly belong.
She also encourages girls to explore everything that interests them. They do not have to become experts in everything, but every experience can add a new skill, idea, or lesson—whether through volunteering, sports, the arts, travel, or student activities.
Her message to every girl is: If no one has gone before you in pursuit of your dream, be the first. Do not be afraid to be different; your difference may be the very reason you inspire someone else. Be proud of your Emirati identity, work hard, and make your success a means of serving your community and your country.
Emirati Heritage.. A Memory That Looks Toward the Future
Moaza has many ambitions, but the one closest to her heart is preserving Emirati heritage and presenting it to new generations in a way that suits the modern era. She is therefore currently working on a series of children’s books inspired by true stories from life in the UAE in the past, because she believes that when children learn about their history from an early age, they grow up with a stronger connection to their identity and culture. She also dreams of launching projects that document the lives of ancestors before the establishment of the Union, as she has noticed that many young people know little about this important period in the UAE’s history. She hopes to present this content in a modern and interactive way that makes it easy and enjoyable to access through books, cultural initiatives, or digital projects. Among her ambitions is also to continue learning new languages, because for her, language is not merely a means of communication, but a key to understanding different cultures and building relationships with people from around the world. She also hopes to continue representing the United Arab Emirates at international forums and to work in a field that serves her country and reflects its bright image. Ultimately, she does not aspire only to achieve personal success; she hopes to be someone who leaves a positive impact on society and inspires young people, especially girls, to dare to dream and believe that passion and hard work can turn dreams into reality.
The UAE.. A Homeland We Carry Wherever We Go
For Moaza, the UAE is not merely the place where she was born; it is the identity she carries with her wherever she goes. The more she travels and learns about new cultures, the prouder she becomes of belonging to this country, because she has come to realise the extent of the opportunities it has provided her and the trust it has placed in its young men and women. For her, love of country is not expressed through words alone; it is reflected in work, dedication, achievement, and in the way we represent our country both at home and abroad. When she was studying in South Korea, participating in cultural events, or speaking with people of different nationalities about the UAE, she felt that she carried a beautiful responsibility: to reflect the true image of her homeland through its values, achievements, and tolerance. She believes that the Emirati woman embodies love for her country by holding firmly to her identity and values while, at the same time, keeping pace with development and innovation. Today, she is a researcher, doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, artist, diplomat, and student of knowledge, yet in all these roles she carries the name of the UAE with her and works to elevate it. Moza hopes to always be one of the daughters of this nation who leave a positive impact wherever they are, to continue representing the UAE with pride, and to give back even a small part of what she owes to a country that has given its people so much and continues to give them every day a new opportunity to dream and achieve their ambitions.
Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates” Initiative (We Will Emerge Stronger and Better)
“We Will Emerge Stronger and Better”.. Strength Through Perseverance
For Moaza, the slogan “We Will Emerge Stronger and Better” represents empowerment and resilience. For her, strength does not mean that we never face difficulties; rather, it means continuing despite them, learning from every experience, and emerging from each one stronger and more mature. On a personal level, she believes that a person becomes stronger when they believe in themselves and give themselves the opportunity to try, even when they fear failure. Throughout her life, she has learned that changing her university major, undertaking a student exchange experience in South Korea, and living away from her family were all steps that made her more independent and confident in herself. On the family level, she believes that a person’s strength begins with the family. She was fortunate to have a family that supported her from an early age and encouraged her to explore the world and try everything new, and this support was behind many of the achievements she has accomplished. Professionally, she believes that “the stronger and better” person is one who never stops learning, always seeks to develop themselves, and does not settle for personal success but strives to leave a positive impact on their community. At the national level, this slogan reflects what she sees today in the UAE: a constant ambition toward leadership and excellence. She feels proud whenever she represents the United Arab Emirates abroad because she believes that each of us is responsible for conveying the true image of our homeland through our character, knowledge, and achievements.

Don’t Wait for the Opportunity… Create It Yourself
Her message to every woman who aspires to be among “the strongest and the best” is to believe in herself first and not be afraid of being different or taking a path that no one has taken before. Success does not come because the road is easy, but because a person chooses to keep going despite the challenges.
She encourages every woman to invest in her education, try new things, and not be afraid to change direction if she feels that her passion lies elsewhere. She personally changed her university major when she realized that it did not reflect her ambitions, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions she has ever made.
She also emphasizes to every Emirati girl that she lives in a nation that has provided her with exceptional opportunities. Therefore, she has a responsibility to make the most of these opportunities in service of her community and country, while remaining ambitious and holding firmly to her values and identity. True success, she believes, is to move forward while remaining rooted in one’s authenticity.
Her message to every girl is: “If no one has gone before you to achieve your dream, then be the first. You may become an inspiration to those who come after you.”
“Mother of the Emirates”… A Vision That Gave Women Confidence and Ambition
Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” represents an exceptional model of supporting and empowering women—not only through initiatives and programs, but through her genuine belief in the capabilities and potential of Emirati women.
Moaza believes that today’s younger generation is reaping the fruits of a vision that began many years ago. Emirati women have become present across a wide range of fields, from education and scientific research to politics, economics, diplomacy, and entrepreneurship, and are now able to represent their country with competence and confidence.
For Moaza, when she was given the opportunity to study abroad and represent the United Arab Emirates in South Korea, she realized the extent of the confidence that the leadership has placed in Emirati women. She felt a great responsibility to be a proud and honorable reflection of her country.
She extends her message of gratitude and appreciation to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, saying:
“Thank you for not only empowering women, but for giving them the confidence to believe in themselves, the ambition to go beyond boundaries, and the opportunity to prove their capabilities across different fields. What Emirati women have achieved today is the result of a vision and continuous support, and it will remain a source of inspiration for us and for generations to come.”
