I am Um Saeed, a homemaker and a mother of eight children, and I am from Hatta. My family is the first achievement I am most proud of in my life. I began my journey in volunteer and community work in 2002, and since then, giving back has become an essential part of my life. From 2002 to 2017, I remained actively involved in community and volunteer initiatives. I then entered the world of social media as an influencer and content creator, which became a new window for me, expanding my presence and allowing me to reach more people. I never used social media simply for visibility; rather, I was determined to make it a platform for serving the community and highlighting positive initiatives and efforts. I continued attending and covering various social, humanitarian, charitable, and sporting events and initiatives. Whenever I found an opportunity through which I could serve my community or support a meaningful initiative, I made sure to be present. Over the years, these experiences became a major part of who I am. I grew closer to people, my circle of relationships expanded, and the love of the community, together with the encouragement of my family and those close to me, became my greatest motivation to continue.
When Giving Becomes a Way of Life
Volunteering was never a job or a path I chose for a title or recognition. It began simply with my love for participation and helping others. With every event and initiative, I discovered that even the smallest contribution can make a difference. That is why I never limited myself to one particular field. I participated in humanitarian, charitable, social, and sporting initiatives, and I was also keen to cover them through social media so that their messages could reach a wider audience. Over the years, my goal became not simply to attend, but to contribute to spreading goodness and encouraging others to take part in it.
Milestones of Pride and Recognition That Carry Responsibility
I consider my continued involvement in volunteer and community work from 2002 until today to be one of my greatest achievements, especially as I have simultaneously been a homemaker and a mother of eight children. I am proud of the recognitions I have received throughout my journey, both inside and outside the UAE, and of the titles that hold a special place in my heart, including “Mother of Volunteers” and “Ambassador of Hope.” I am also proud to have received the General Medal from Dubai Police. These recognitions certainly brought me happiness, but I see them as a responsibility before I see them as an achievement, because they mean that what I have given over all these years has made an impact and reached others. Above all, however, the achievement closest to my heart remains the love and trust of people. When people know you for your generosity, look forward to your presence at their events and initiatives, and value your contribution, that is a recognition beyond measure.
Balancing Family and Volunteering: The Foundation of My Journey
The greatest challenge was balancing my responsibilities as a mother with my continuous presence at initiatives and events. However, I learned how to manage my time, and my family’s support and encouragement were essential factors in helping me continue. I never viewed my family and volunteering as two conflicting paths. Instead, I saw the values I live through volunteer work—giving, cooperation, and serving others—as the same values I want to pass on to my children.
An Impact That Remains Long After the Event Ends
After all these years, it is difficult for me to choose a single memorable moment, because every initiative carries its own story, faces, and memories. What touches me most, however, is meeting someone years later who remembers me because of a particular moment or event I participated in, or who tells me that a coverage or initiative encouraged them to become involved in volunteering. In those moments, I feel that an activity that began and ended in a single day may have left an impact that remained for years in another person’s life. To me, that is the true meaning of giving.
More Than Twenty Years… and There Is Still More to Give
More than twenty years have passed since I began my journey in 2002, and I still believe that I have much more to offer. I started as a mother and homemaker who loved participating and serving others. Then social media became a wider platform through which I could bring initiatives and events closer to the community. The journey continued until it led to recognitions inside and outside the UAE, as well as titles I am proud of, such as “Mother of Volunteers” and “Ambassador of Hope,” along with receiving the General Medal from Dubai Police. But if you were to ask me after all these years: What is the most valuable recognition? I would say: the love of people. We cherish medals, preserve certificates, and take pride in titles, but to be remembered for good, to see people happy to have you among them, and to feel that you have left a positive impact on your community—that is the medal I hope to carry throughout my life.
“We Will Show the Strongest and the Best” — Strength That Begins Within and Extends to the Nation
The slogan “We Will Show the Strongest and the Best” carries a beautiful and profound meaning for me. It confirms that what Emirati women have achieved is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of even greater giving, growth, and achievement. On a personal level, it means continuing to develop myself and never stopping my contribution, regardless of how many years pass. My experience since 2002 has taught me that the more a person gives, learns, and connects with others, the stronger they become through experience and the better they become through their impact. On a family level, I am a mother of eight children, and I believe that my strength begins with my family. A woman’s success is not measured only by what she achieves outside her home, but also by the values of responsibility, giving, and belonging to the nation that she instills in her children. One of the things I hope for most is that my children see my journey as an example that encourages them to serve their community. In my volunteer and community journey, the slogan means that I should not be satisfied with what I have already contributed, but should continue participating in and supporting initiatives, sharing their messages through social media, and using my experience to encourage others to volunteer and take initiative. On a national level, I feel proud when I see the position Emirati women have reached. Our nation has given women confidence, opportunities, and support, and our responsibility is to give back to this nation a part of what it has given us and to always represent the UAE in a way worthy of its name.
My Message to Every Woman: Start with What You Have
My message to every woman is: Do not wait for perfect circumstances before you begin. Start with what you have and from wherever you are. I am a homemaker and a mother of eight children, but that did not prevent me from having a role in my community. I began with simple steps, and over the years, participation and volunteering became part of my life. I reached places and achieved things that I had never imagined when I first started. Do not measure your success against the success of others; every woman has her own journey, circumstances, and abilities. Be stronger than your hesitation, become better than you were yesterday, and let your success extend to your family, community, and nation. I believe that a strong woman is not only a woman who holds a prominent position or achieves a major accomplishment. She may be a mother building a family, a volunteer giving her time to others, or a woman starting over and discovering her abilities. What matters is that she believes in herself and leaves a positive impact wherever she is.
Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates” — An Inspiration That Strengthened the Position of Emirati Women
When we speak about Emirati women and how far they have come today, we cannot discuss this journey without acknowledging the great role of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” and the support she has provided over many years to women, families, mothers, and children. Her Highness has instilled in us the belief that women are essential partners in building the nation, and that a mother’s role within her family does not conflict with her role in society. Rather, the family is the starting point for building individuals and communities. For me, as an Emirati woman and a mother of eight children who has devoted many years to volunteer and community work, I feel that the support Emirati women have received has opened wide doors for us to participate, take initiative, and serve our community, each from her own position and in her own way.
I say to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak: Thank you, Mother of the Emirates, because what you have planted in the daughters of the UAE can be seen today in their achievements, contributions, and presence across every field. Thank you for making women feel that their nation believes in them, trusts their abilities, and gives them the space to be partners in its journey of development. We pray that Allah protects Your Highness and grants you continued health and well-being, and that Emirati women will always live up to the confidence of their leadership and nation. May we all continue the journey of giving, so that at every stage, we can show that we are stronger and better.
