An Emirati Engineer Who Began Her Journey in Computer Engineering to Lead Energy Systems and Digital Transformation

I am Amal AlDhaibani, an Emirati engineer specializing in Computer Engineering, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and Operational Technology (OT) within Dubai’s energy transmission sector. I currently serve as a Senior Engineer supporting SCADA systems at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Sharjah, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, alongside another Master’s degree in Innovation and Change Management from Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University. I began my career at DEWA in 2015 and was the first female employee in the Systems Unit, working in a highly technical engineering environment predominantly made up of men. Since then, my journey has evolved from specialized engineering work into leading projects, innovation, digital transformation, automation, and team development. My journey has not simply been one of professional growth; it has been a continuous demonstration that Emirati women are capable of playing an active and influential role in some of the most specialized engineering and technology fields.

A Passion for Technology, Logical Thinking, and Problem-Solving Led Me to an Engineering Field Connected to Critical Infrastructure

From a young age, I had a passion for technology, logical thinking, and problem-solving, which led me to study Computer Engineering and later specialize further in SCADA systems and Operational Technology associated with Dubai’s energy transmission network. What attracted me to this field was the scale of responsibility and impact it carries; the systems we work with form part of Dubai’s critical infrastructure and require the highest levels of accuracy, reliability, and continuity. As my career developed, I discovered that my passion extended beyond engineering itself to include innovation, digital transformation, and improving ways of working. I constantly began asking myself: Can this process be completed faster? Can errors be reduced? Can we develop the solution internally instead of relying on external solutions? This mindset has become an essential part of my professional identity.

Sixteen Major Awards and Recognitions Have Marked Important Milestones in My Professional Journey

My career has been built through a series of milestones, with every achievement paving the way for the next stage. Throughout this journey, I have been honored with 16 major awards and recognitions at the global level, as well as at the levels of DEWA, the Energy Transmission sector, and management. I value these recognitions because they were never goals in themselves; rather, they were the result of years of work, innovation, and continuous learning. At the global level, I won the 2026 Global Environmental and Energy Leaders Award and received the Expo 2020 Medal presented by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a recognition that holds a particularly special national significance for me. At the authority level, I won the DEWA Stars Award for Excellence in the Technical and Engineering Field in 2023, received the Innovation Champion recognition, and won the authority-wide Innovation Week competition, in addition to being recognized as the Best Innovator at the Operational Technology Department level in 2025. At the sector level, 2026 marked another important milestone when I won two awards in a single cycle within the Energy Transmission sector: the first in the technical and engineering field, and the second for an innovative management initiative, alongside previous awards in specialization, innovation, and management initiatives.

The Achievements Behind the Awards Generated More Than AED 71 Million in Savings and Solutions That Reduced Process Times by up to 98%

The true value of these awards lies in the achievements behind them. Since 2019, I have been leading work related to the Energy Measurement and Audit System across Dubai’s energy transmission network, generating savings of more than AED 71 million through in-house engineering implementation, digital transformation, and virtual simulation. I also led the virtual simulation project for the Energy Measurement and Audit System at the Operational Technology Data Center, serving as both the project manager and system engineer. The project generated AED 1.232 million in savings in the infrastructure of Dubai’s energy transmission network, in addition to annual savings and improvements in the flexibility, efficiency, and operational sustainability of one of the most important energy networks in the region. I also developed and contributed to the development of more than 10 in-house automation solutions within the Operational Technology ecosystem of Dubai’s energy transmission network. These solutions reduced the time required for certain processes by up to 98%, achieved 100% accuracy, generated AED 1.14 million in annual savings, and saved more than 1,080 engineering hours. For this reason, I consider the true turning point in my career to have been my transition from an engineer who implemented solutions to an engineer who leads change, creates solutions, and transforms ideas into measurable impact. What gives these achievements even greater meaning to me is that they serve critical infrastructure in the Emirate of Dubai, an emirate that has become a global hub for business, innovation, and sustainability, and any impact we create within its energy transmission network contributes directly to its position as one of the world’s most advanced and reliable cities.

Challenges Became Opportunities and Proved That Competence Is the Strongest Language

One of the most significant challenges for me was working in a highly specialized engineering and technology field within an environment predominantly made up of men. In the early stages of my career, I was determined that I should not be seen simply as a “woman working in engineering,” but as a young engineer distinguished by her competence and results. I therefore focused on building my technical knowledge, continuous learning, taking responsibility, and never hesitating to take on complex projects and technical challenges. Over the years, these challenges turned into opportunities; I began leading technical projects and teams, chairing innovation teams, and contributing to the development of engineering solutions and automation tools. I learned an important lesson: you may initially be the only woman in the room, but your excellence today can make the presence of women in that same space tomorrow completely normal.

Emirati Women Have Moved from Benefiting from Empowerment to Actively Shaping the Future

Emirati women today are no longer simply beneficiaries of opportunities created through empowerment; they have become partners in shaping the future of the nation. We see Emirati women as engineers, doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, ministers, and innovators, working across energy, space, artificial intelligence, and technology. We are fortunate to live in a country that believes in women’s capabilities, invests in their education and empowerment, and gives them opportunities to assume positions of responsibility. I believe the next stage should move beyond asking whether women are present and instead focus on the impact women create. The question is no longer: Can a woman work in this field? The question is: What will she add to it, and how will she contribute to its development and leadership?

Moving from Seeking Knowledge to Sharing It with Others Changed My Definition of Success

One of the experiences that has had the greatest impact on me was moving from a stage in which I was searching for people to guide me and share knowledge with me, to a stage where I became the person providing support and guidance to others. One experience I am particularly proud of is serving as a professional mentor to a young man nominated in the youth category of excellence programs, supporting him in developing his professional journey and preparing applications for participation in a number of internal and external awards. This experience changed my understanding of success; I realized that true success is not complete when you reach the destination alone, but when you use what you have learned to help someone else reach it as well. The further I progress in my career, the greater my sense of responsibility becomes toward empowering others and sharing knowledge with them.

The UAE, Its Leadership, My Family, My Work Environment, and Continuous Learning Have Been the Foundations of My Journey

The United Arab Emirates and our wise leadership come first; they have created an environment for Emirati women in which there is no ceiling to their ambitions. Then comes my family, which has been a source of support, confidence, and stability throughout my journey. Professionally, DEWA, its leadership, my managers, and my colleagues have played an important role in providing an environment that enabled me to take on responsibilities and continue learning. Another important factor has been my belief that learning does not end with obtaining a university degree. Alongside my specialization in Computer Engineering and my postgraduate studies, I have pursued specialized professional certifications, most notably the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Certified Data Management Professional, Certified Digital Transformation Practitioner, Innovation Performance Professional, Certified Innovation Professional and Innovation Management System according to ISO 56002, Cybersecurity according to ISO 27001, and Prompt Engineering in the field of Artificial Intelligence, in addition to 18 certifications from the Project Management Institute, 15 certifications in innovation-related fields, two certifications from the International Institute of Business Analysis, and a certification from the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). I believe that knowledge is the investment that stays with a person throughout every stage of their journey.

My Message to Girls: Do Not Be Afraid to Be the Only One or the First

My message to every Emirati girl is: Do not be afraid to be the only one or the first. You may one day enter a room, a field of study, or a workplace where you do not see many women, but do not let that become a reason to hesitate. Build your place through your knowledge, competence, commitment, and results, and do not always choose the easiest path; choose the path that makes you more knowledgeable, stronger, and more mature. Today, we are reaping the fruits of doors opened for us by women who came before us, and therefore we have a responsibility to open new doors for those who come after us. The steps you take today may become the path that other women follow tomorrow.

My Ambition Is to Bring Together Engineering, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, Innovation, and Leadership to Create Greater Impact

My future ambition revolves around bringing together engineering, energy, artificial intelligence, innovation, and leadership. I have a strong interest in the future of artificial intelligence in energy grid operations and control centers, and in how modern technologies can be used to enhance efficiency and support decision-making while maintaining the highest levels of reliability and security. This interest has also extended into the research side of my career, where I have worked on research related to digital transformation, control systems, virtual simulation of operational systems, and the future integration of generative artificial intelligence into control room systems for energy networks. I aspire to continue developing myself academically and professionally, expand into leadership roles, and contribute further to innovation and the development of young talent. My ambition is not to reach a particular job title, but to reach a stage where the scale of my impact is greater than the boundaries of my position.

On Emirati Women’s Day, I extend my gratitude to the United Arab Emirates and our wise leadership for making women’s empowerment a reality that we experience every day. More Than 500 Volunteer Hours Across More Than 70 Initiatives Reflect My Belief That Community Service Is Part of Success

I believe professional success becomes more meaningful when its impact extends to society. Alongside my engineering career, volunteering and community service represent a very important part of who I am, because I believe that a person’s value is measured not only by what they achieve professionally, but also by what they give to their community and country. Over the years, I have contributed more than 500 volunteer hours through more than 70 national and community initiatives. I hold a volunteer license from the Community Development Authority, in addition to being an active member of the UAE Volunteers platform. Among my most notable experiences are volunteering at GITEX with DEWA’s Innovation Team, organizing the Dubai World Cup, participating in the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence Forum, the Ministry of Interior’s Drug Prevention Forum, organizing the Sixth Arab Mental Math Competition, participating in the book recycling initiative at Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, and contributing to the World Government Summit. I have also participated in humanitarian initiatives, including honoring workers on International Workers’ Day, Ramadan initiatives, and preparing school bags for orphans and low-income families.

Innovation has also been a fundamental part of my journey. Since 2016, I have taken on leadership roles within innovation teams and contributed to organizing more than 80 innovation and artificial intelligence activities that benefited approximately 2,000 employees, in addition to developing educational and technological solutions to promote a culture of innovation. For me, volunteering is not about the number of hours recorded; it is a national value and a social responsibility. Professional achievement gives me a sense of pride, but the ability to use my time and expertise to serve others gives that achievement greater meaning. I believe that an Emirati woman creates her impact not only through her position or specialization, but also through her presence within her community and her continued willingness to give. Ultimately, success is not measured by the number of awards we receive, but by the size of the impact that remains after us.

For me, the slogan “We Will Show Up Stronger and Better” carries a deep meaning. It does not call on us to compare ourselves with others, but rather to continuously strive to become stronger and better versions of ourselves. On a personal level, it means continuing to learn and grow and never being satisfied with what I have already achieved. Within the family, it means that a woman’s success and ambition should be a source of strength and pride for her family, while preserving her values and identity. Professionally, it means not settling for simply meeting expectations, but continuously seeking opportunities for improvement, innovation, and meaningful impact. Nationally, I see it as a responsibility, because every achievement by an Emirati woman adds another chapter to the UAE’s story of success. When we show up stronger and better, we represent a nation that taught us that ambition has no limits.

When I look at what Emirati women have achieved today, I realize that these accomplishments did not begin with our generation; they are the result of a national vision that has extended across decades, with Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” among the most prominent leaders who established and advanced the journey of Emirati women’s empowerment. As an Emirati engineer working in a specialized engineering and technology field, I feel that my presence in this field today is one of the outcomes of an ecosystem that believed in women’s ability to learn, work, lead, and excel. We see the impact of this vision today in every Emirati female engineer, doctor, scientist, leader, and entrepreneur, and in every girl who sees her ambition as a right and a responsibility rather than an exception.

التحديات تحولت إلى فرص وأثبتت أن الكفاءة هي اللغة الأقوى

من أبرز التحديات بالنسبة لي العمل في مجال هندسي وتقني شديد التخصص، في بيئة يغلب عليها العنصر الرجالي. في بداياتي، كنت حريصة على ألا يكون الحديث عني باعتباري «امرأة تعمل في مجال هندسي» فحسب، بل باعتباري مهندسة شابة تتميز بكفاءتها ونتائجها. لذلك ركزت على بناء معرفتي التخصصية، والتعلم المستمر، وتحمل المسؤولية، وعدم التردد في خوض المشاريع والتحديات التقنية المعقدة. ومع مرور السنوات، تحولت التحديات إلى فرص؛ أصبحت أقود مشاريع وفرقًا تقنية، وأترأس فرق ابتكار، وأشارك في تطوير حلول هندسية وأدوات أتمتة. وتعلمت درسًا مهمًا: قد تكونين في البداية المرأة الوحيدة في المكان، لكن تميزك اليوم قد يجعل وجود المرأة في المكان نفسه غدًا أمرًا طبيعيًا

المرأة الإماراتية انتقلت من الاستفادة من التمكين إلى المشاركة في صناعة المستقبل

المرأة الإماراتية اليوم لم تعد فقط مستفيدة من فرص التمكين، بل أصبحت شريكًا في صناعة مستقبل الدولة. نراها مهندسة وطبيبة وعالمة ورائدة أعمال ووزيرة ومبتكرة، تعمل في الطاقة والفضاء والذكاء الاصطناعي والتكنولوجيا. ونحن محظوظات بأننا نعيش في وطن آمن بقدرات المرأة، واستثمر في تعليمها وتمكينها ومنحها فرصة تولي مواقع المسؤولية. وأعتقد أن المرحلة القادمة يجب أن تنتقل من السؤال عن وجود المرأة إلى الحديث عن أثر المرأة. لم يعد السؤال: هل تستطيع المرأة العمل في هذا المجال؟ بل: ماذا ستضيف إليه؟ وكيف ستسهم في تطويره وقيادته؟

الانتقال من البحث عن المعرفة إلى منحها للآخرين غيّر مفهوم النجاح بالنسبة لي

من أكثر ما أثّر فيّ هو التحول من مرحلة كنت أبحث فيها عمن يوجهني ويمنحني المعرفة، إلى مرحلة أصبحت فيها أنا من يقدّم الدعم والتوجيه للآخرين. ومن التجارب التي أعتز بها عملي كمرشدة مهنية لأحد الشباب المرشحين ضمن فئة الشباب في برامج التميز، حيث دعمته في تطوير مسيرته المهنية وإعداد ملفات المشاركة في عدد من الجوائز الداخلية والخارجية. هذه التجربة غيّرت مفهوم النجاح بالنسبة لي؛ أدركت أن النجاح الحقيقي لا يكتمل عندما تصلين وحدك، بل عندما تستخدمين ما تعلمتِه لمساعدة شخص آخر على الوصول أيضًا. وكلما تقدمت خطوة في مسيرتي، أصبحت أشعر بمسؤولية أكبر تجاه تمكين الآخرين ومشاركة المعرفة معهم

دولة الإمارات وقيادتنا الرشيدة تأتي أولًا؛ فهي التي وفرت للمرأة الإماراتية بيئة لا تضع سقفًا لطموحها. ثم عائلتي، التي كانت مصدر الدعم والثقة والاستقرار طوال رحلتي. وعلى المستوى المهني، كان لهيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي وقياداتها ومدرائي وزملائي دور مهم في توفير بيئة أتاحت لي تحمل المسؤوليات والتعلم المستمر. ومن أهم العوامل أيضًا إيماني بأن التعلم لا ينتهي بالحصول على الشهادة الجامعية. فإلى جانب تخصصي في هندسة الحاسوب ودراساتي العليا، حرصت على الحصول على شهادات مهنية متخصصة، أبرزها: شهادة محترف إدارة المشاريع، والمحترف المعتمد في إدارة البيانات، والممارس المعتمد في التحول الرقمي، ومحترف أداء الابتكار، والمحترف المعتمد في الابتكار ونظام إدارة الابتكار وفق آيزو 56002، والأمن السيبراني وفق آيزو 27001، وهندسة الأوامر في مجال الذكاء الاصطناعي، إضافة إلى 18 شهادة من معهد إدارة المشاريع، و15 شهادة في مجالات الابتكار، وشهادتين من المعهد الدولي لتحليل الأعمال، وشهادة من جمعية صناعة تكنولوجيا الحوسبة. وأؤمن بأن المعرفة هي الاستثمار الذي يرافق الإنسان في كل مرحلة من مراحل مسيرته

رسالتي للفتيات: لا تخفن من أن تكنّ الوحيدات أو الأوليات

رسالتي لكل فتاة إماراتية: لا تخافي من أن تكوني الوحيدة أو الأولى. قد تدخلين يومًا قاعة أو تخصصًا أو بيئة عمل لا ترين فيها الكثير من النساء، لكن لا تجعلي ذلك سببًا للتردد. ابني مكانك بعلمك وكفاءتك والتزامك ونتائجك، ولا تختاري دائمًا الطريق الأسهل، بل الطريق الذي يجعلك أكثر معرفة وقوة ونضجًا. نحن اليوم نحصد ثمار أبواب فتحتها لنا نساء سبقننا، ولذلك تقع علينا مسؤولية أن نفتح أبوابًا جديدة لمن سيأتين بعدنا. قد تكون خطواتك اليوم هي الطريق الذي ستسير عليه أخريات غدًا

طموحي أن أدمج الهندسة والطاقة والذكاء الاصطناعي والابتكار والقيادة لصناعة أثر أكبر

طموحي المستقبلي يتمحور حول الجمع بين الهندسة والطاقة والذكاء الاصطناعي والابتكار والقيادة. لدي اهتمام كبير بمستقبل الذكاء الاصطناعي في عمليات شبكات الطاقة ومراكز التحكم، وكيف يمكن استخدام التقنيات الحديثة لرفع الكفاءة ودعم اتخاذ القرار مع المحافظة على أعلى مستويات الموثوقية والأمن. وانعكس هذا الاهتمام على الجانب البحثي من مسيرتي؛ إذ عملت على أبحاث في التحول الرقمي، وأنظمة التحكم، والمحاكاة الافتراضية للأنظمة التشغيلية، ومستقبل دمج الذكاء الاصطناعي التوليدي في أنظمة غرف التحكم بشبكات الطاقة. وأطمح لمواصلة تطوير نفسي أكاديميًا ومهنيًا، والتوسع في الأدوار القيادية، والمساهمة أكثر في الابتكار وتطوير الكفاءات الشابة. طموحي ليس الوصول إلى مسمى وظيفي معين، بل الوصول إلى مرحلة يصبح فيها حجم أثري أكبر من حدود وظيفتي

في يوم المرأة الإماراتية، أتوجه بالشكر إلى دولة الإمارات وقيادتنا الرشيدة التي جعلت تمكين المرأة واقعًا نعيشه كل يوم. وشكرًا لكل أسرة آمنت بطموح ابنتها، ولكل قائد منح امرأة فرصة لأنها تستحقها بكفاءتها، ولكل امرأة إماراتية سبقتنا وفتحت لنا بابًا جديدًا. وأقول لكل امرأة: لا تجعلي النجاح محطة تصلين إليها فقط؛ اجعليه أثرًا تتركينه، ومعرفة تشاركينها، وبابًا تفتحينه لغيرك

أكثر من 500 ساعة تطوعية في أكثر من 70 مبادرة تؤكد أن خدمة المجتمع جزء من النجاح

أؤمن بأن النجاح المهني يكتسب قيمة أكبر عندما يمتد أثره إلى المجتمع. إلى جانب مسيرتي الهندسية، يمثل العمل التطوعي وخدمة المجتمع جانبًا مهمًا جدًا بالنسبة لي، لأنني أؤمن بأن قيمة الإنسان لا تُقاس فقط بما يحققه في مجال عمله، بل أيضًا بما يقدمه لمجتمعه ووطنه. على مدار السنوات، قدمت أكثر من 500 ساعة تطوعية عبر أكثر من 70 مبادرة وطنية ومجتمعية، وأحمل رخصة تطوع من دائرة تنمية المجتمع، إلى جانب عضويتي الفاعلة في منصة متطوعي الإمارات. ومن أبرز هذه التجارب: التطوع في جيتكس مع فريق الابتكار في هيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي، وتنظيم كأس دبي العالمي، ومنتدى وزارة الذكاء الاصطناعي، ومنتدى الوقاية من المخدرات التابع لوزارة الداخلية، وتنظيم المسابقة العربية السادسة لبرنامج الحساب الذهني، ومبادرة إعادة تدوير الكتب في مكتبة محمد بن راشد، والمشاركة في القمة العالمية للحكومات. كما شاركت في مبادرات إنسانية منها تكريم العمال في يوم العمال العالمي، ومبادرات رمضان، وتجهيز الحقائب المدرسية للأيتام والأسر محدودة الدخل

الابتكار جزء أساسي من مسيرتي منذ عام 2016 وأثره وصل إلى نحو 2,000 موظف

الابتكار كان أيضًا جزءًا أساسيًا من مسيرتي؛ توليت أدوارًا قيادية في فرق الابتكار منذ عام 2016، وأسهمت في تنظيم أكثر من 80 نشاطًا في الابتكار والذكاء الاصطناعي استفاد منها نحو 2,000 موظف، إضافة إلى تطوير حلول تعليمية وتقنية لنشر ثقافة الابتكار. وبالنسبة لي، التطوع ليس عدد ساعات مسجلة، بل قيمة وطنية ومسؤولية مجتمعية. فالإنجاز المهني يمنحني الفخر، لكن القدرة على استخدام وقتي وخبرتي لخدمة الآخرين تمنحه معنى أكبر. أؤمن بأن المرأة الإماراتية لا تصنع أثرها فقط من خلال منصبها أو تخصصها، بل من خلال حضورها في مجتمعها واستعدادها الدائم للعطاء. وأخيرًا، النجاح ليس عدد الجوائز التي نحصل عليها، بل حجم الأثر الذي يبقى بعدنا

بالنسبة لي، شعار «بنظهر الأقوى والأفضل» يحمل معنى عميقًا؛ فهو لا يدعونا إلى مقارنة أنفسنا بالآخرين، بل إلى أن نسعى باستمرار لأن نصبح نسخة أقوى وأفضل من أنفسنا. على المستوى الشخصي، يعني لي الاستمرار في التعلم والتطور وعدم الاكتفاء بما حققته. وأسريًا، يعني أن يكون نجاح المرأة وطموحها مصدر قوة وفخر لأسرتها، مع الحفاظ على قيمها وهويتها. ومهنيًا، يعني ألا نكتفي بأداء المطلوب، بل أن نبحث عن فرص التحسين والابتكار وصناعة أثر حقيقي. أما وطنيًا، فأراه مسؤولية؛ لأن كل إنجاز تحققه امرأة إماراتية يضاف إلى قصة نجاح الإمارات. وعندما نظهر نحن أقوى وأفضل، فإننا نمثل وطنًا علّمنا أن الطموح ليس له سقف

القوة الحقيقية ليست في غياب التحديات بل في القدرة على النهوض والتعلم وترك الباب مفتوحًا للآخرين

أقول لكل امرأة تطمح لأن تكون من «الأقوى والأفضل»: القوة لا تعني ألا تواجهك التحديات، والتميز لا يعني ألا تخطئي. القوة الحقيقية هي أن تتعلمي من كل تجربة، وأن تنهضي من كل تحدٍ أكثر وعيًا ومعرفة وثقة. استثمري في تعليمك، وابني اسمك على الكفاءة، ولا تنتظري الظروف المثالية أو موافقة الآخرين على طموحك. كوني قوية بما يكفي لتفتحي الباب لنفسك، ومتميزة بما يكفي لتتركيه مفتوحًا لمن تأتي بعدك

رؤية «أم الإمارات» أسست لمسيرة جعلت المرأة الإماراتية شريكًا في الإنجاز والقيادة

عندما أنظر إلى ما وصلت إليه المرأة الإماراتية اليوم، أدرك أن هذه الإنجازات لم تبدأ معنا، بل هي ثمرة رؤية وطنية امتدت لعقود، وكانت سمو الشيخة فاطمة بنت مبارك «أم الإمارات» من أبرز من أسسوا لمسيرة تمكين المرأة الإماراتية. وبصفتي مهندسة إماراتية تعمل في مجال هندسي وتقني متخصص، أشعر بأن وجودي اليوم في هذا المجال هو أحد ثمار هذه المنظومة التي آمنت بقدرة المرأة على التعلم والعمل والقيادة والتميز. ونرى أثر هذه الرؤية اليوم في كل مهندسة وطبيبة وعالمة وقائدة ورائدة أعمال إماراتية، وفي كل فتاة تنظر إلى طموحها باعتباره حقًا ومسؤولية وليس استثناءً
